What's New 1/20/09
by Joanne Frazer

Do my eyes deceive! Is it really raining!! Yeah!!! I was thoroughly enjoying the fantastic warm weather we've been having until I realize it's winter and we really need the rain to fill up our wells. So, let's all keep visualizing rain (except on Fridays, of course!).

Baabaara, Baa-Baa's daughter, had two lambs last Thursday. She took them both and is a great mother. That makes 5 lambs for 3 ewes, not a bad ratio, huh?! More are on the way and we'll keep you posted. Sometime soon I'll get the photos up on our website.

Jody, our helper extraordinaire, took runners from our small raspberry bed and transplanted them into two rows (100' each) in beds just south of our house. So, as you cross the bridge be sure to send good, green, growing thoughts to them!

John and friends cleaned up beds, tilled them, then transplanted more lettuces, turnips, daikons, napa cabbages, and pak choy. Makes me hungry just listing them!

I have a story to tell about my good friend John. He asked me to gather eggs the other day, which I immediately did ('cuz that's just the kinda person I am). I went in and what do I see? Two of my hand embroidered napkins (that I picked up in the Caribbean a few years ago) hanging by nails above the nest boxes! I ran out and asked him why he chose those particular ones as cover for them. He said they were in the rag box so he used them. I explained that they had fallen there by mistake but it's too late to retrieve them now. I had to let him know to ask me BEFORE using anything from now on. I only hope those hens can appreciate all the work that went into their screens!

Does anyone have or know someone who has a large freezer they want to get rid of? We will be getting that beef I told you about in the last newsletter and need someplace to put it.

Remember you can save on the box rental fee by bringing your own bag or box and transferring the produce.

We'll leave the boxes out on the table in front of the garage so you can pick them up on Saturday if that works better for you.

Thank you for your continuing support!
