What's new 3/10/2009
by Joanne Frazer
Well, I for one am not so pleased about putting our clocks ahead. It seems I'm still adjusting to the new time. The good news is that most of the hens have started laying. It's amazing what a little more sunlight does for them.
The ground is already dried out from all the rain we received in the first part of last week. That North wind sure did it's job! As soon as it let up, John started putting all the covers on the rows. Then the wind switched to the South and blew the covers off the other way! At least it keeps him out of mischief! But no matter which direction the wind blows, it really makes our laundry dry quickly. Our sheets smell sooooo nice and the comforter cover made such a lovely, crisp sound. I'm kinda enjoying hanging up clothes before going to work and it's quite fun listening to the birds singing while I'm out there.
John's been busy clearing out, tilling and prepping the rest of the beds in order to get them ready for planting this week. In fact, if any of you want to come and help us plant the onions (we have to get in 8 beds of 300 plugs - that equals 1200 onion plants) then please come on by Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. We'd welcome your company!
Most of the seedlings have sprouted in the trays. John ordered tubing and nozzles in order to put in a misting system so he won't have to spend as much time watering the trays when they're first planted. It's very important for their growth, to keep them moist but not wet. We'll keep you posted on our progress.
Alas, we will not be doing boxes this week. We need, once again, to give the garden a little break.
But, we do have eggs for sale so call or email us to arrange a pick-up time.
Remember, no boxes this week!
Our new website continues to grow. We have posted four favorite recipes just to get you thinking about what to do with next week's box! NoyoHillFarm.com If you have some special recipes you are willing to share, please send 'em in.
