What's new 04/07/09

We have so much going on right now, I just don't know where to start! A wonderful woman who has an acre of land just south of Little River contacted us. She would like to have someone grow vegetables on it again. We went down to see it with her. It's a wonderful site! It's fenced; it has plenty of water, and a hoop house frame. So, we're thinking of planting potatoes (yes, even more), winter squash, and maybe corn (yippee, I keep asking for corn!). Our friend, Andy, will be working with us on it. It's so exciting!
Our potato order arrived last week. We now have 20 50# sacks!! That's 1,000 pounds of seed potatoes! You can see why we were happy to have another place to plant them!
We also went up to Wages Creek to see how the ground is doing and if it's ready to be tilled yet. It is bottomland; so it's still a little wet. They'll start plowing next week (after this rain). By next month, we'll be able to start planting!!! Sakina took some pictures and hopefully we'll get a scrapbook on the website soon for you to view.
We were able to get a load of brewery grains delivered. John used a lot of it in his compost and I helped by putting around the blueberry plants as mulch. Hopefully, we'll keep getting it so I can mulch my flowerbeds. It's great stuff!
The sad announcement is our very competent, fun, and reliable worker, Jody, has moved back East. She has a job working fulltime on a farm that raises plants and medicinal herbs to sell at Farmers Markets. We wish her all the best and have made sure she's always welcome back.
Another good thing is we had 3 people volunteer to help pick vegetables for the boxes on Fridays! Last week we got everything picked and packed in record time. A great big thank you to all of you who helped!!!

We have 'Greens Bucks' available again. This is our 'seed' money to help us get started in the Spring. You can use them either to pay for your boxes or at our stand at the Fort Bragg Farmers Market. You can buy a book of 11 coupons worth $15 each for $150.00. Please let us know if you want a booklet or two so we can have them ready for you.
Please put your phone number in the comments section when you order so we can call you if you don't pick up your box on Friday afternoon. The weather is warming up and the produce wilts. It makes us sad when our produce is not at it's best when you get it. Plus, we will have to charge you for the box whether or not you pick it up. Thank you.
You can pick your boxes up from 3:00-6:00PM on Friday, here at our farm. Thank you for your continued support.
