What's new 4/14/09
by Joanne Frazer
Wow! Hold on tight or you might wind up in Arizona! It seems the wind blows harder each week. If anyone has a wind gauge could you let us know what the top wind speed was? It sure has torn the covers off of the low tunnels. But, everything else seems to be holding up well.
John & Andy worked on the new garden area at the Mallory House. They mowed and cleaned up the green house area. John's able to use the cut grass as food for the sheep. There's so many of them that we need to supplement their grazing. Even though there are two fewer now. That still is a lot of mouths to feed!
Vegans and vegetarians skip this paragraph! John, Andy and I spend most of Saturday grinding, mixing in spices, and stuffing 27 pounds of lamb sausage! It took us about 7 1/2 hours! We made our usual country sage and Sicilian style. But, then we decided to be creative and made up our own. It's soooooo delicious! We put in our own dried tomatoes (revived by soaking in hot water), garlic, oregano, savory, and basil. I have a feeling they won't last very long!
All the seedlings are coming along nicely. I really must take some pictures and put them on the website so you can enjoy watching the different stages the produce goes through. Quite a few of my flower seeds have sprouted. They don't germinate as fast as the vegetable seeds; but there will be some different flowers in this year's bouquets. Now, all I have to do is wait for a calm day to go out and prepare the site.
