What's new 04/28/09
by Joanne Frazer

Well, I guess we should be thankful for the small amount of rainfall we just got. I can tell it's spring 'cuz one morning there's frost on the garage roof, the next it's blowing like the dickens and then it rains! Amazing, isn't it?

John's been busy tilling and preparing more and more beds. He transplanted the summer squash and I helped put the slitted row cover on. We finished right at dark! If we hadn't covered them then we would have lost the bunch! Yeah, it got done before the cold set in.

I was able to spend a day weeding almost all of the strawberry beds. It took awhile 'cuz I had to do some 'quality control'. I mean someone has to monitor the berries for sweetness, don't they? Soon, very soon you'll all get a taste of this year's crop!!!
John & Andy cleared more area down at the Mallory House. They put on compost and then tilled it in. They'll be doing this a few more times before finally planting.
Anna came by and helped prepare the beds and transplant more broccoli starts. Does this sound familiar? It seems I'm always talking about preparing beds, transplanting, weeding, cultivating, and picking. Maybe that's because we're always doing one or more of those chores!
Vegans stop reading now John decided we needed to reduce our herd size plus we needed the area where the bummer lamb was being raised. He was the one who was rejected by his mother and John kept him separate from the flock. John was the one in charge of feeding him. Well, we now know what real spring lamb tastes like and unfortunately for the rest, we really love it! It's so tender and mild. The other lambs we've had in the past have been good but this one was great!
By the way, Thursday's my daughter, Julie's birthday. She's turning 18! I just don't have any idea where all that time has gone!
Thanks again for your support!
