What's new 05/26/09
by Joanne Frazer
Yeah, John's back! All of us really missed him and we have a renewed appreciation for all that he does around here. I was able to keep up with the chores but it sure is nice having someone to share the workload with.
Before he left he prepared beds for the tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and basil that need to get transplanted soon. We transplanted a bed of beans and then he planted fava beans, too.
We have been using an 'ebb and flow' system for our starts and that works incredibly well. They grow so fast and strong now. We're looking at plans to make one large enough to fit 2 10' grow mats side by side. By growing this way, we free up time to work on other things. Too bad they don't have an automated weeding system figured out!
Luckily, my son, Scott, was home for the weekend. He and my friend, Carmelle, helped move some plants, put out plants, cut back some overgrown plants, and laid mulch in our side yard. I hand-cut the tall weeds around most of the beds. We also planted more in the bed out front by the gate. It really looking good. It's so uplifting to walk out there now and quite a few of the flowers have started blooming. We'll have bouquets very soon!
On the drive down to the airport, John and I were talking about growing and selling produce. We realized we truly enjoy what we do and our method of selling to you. We feel as though we are raising vegetables for our extended family. We enjoy talking with you when you pick up your boxes and watching the joy on your and your children's faces when you look inside your boxes to see what's there that week.
We are striving to have interesting and varying items in your boxes each week and keep people's preferences in mind when we place our seed orders.
We will always give you the first of the crops before selling them at the farmers market. Although we currently sell our produce at the farmers market, we prefer this much more personal method and our ultimate goal is to sell exclusively via our CSA. We thank all of you for being part of our lives.

Today is the first day we will be selling produce at the Fort Bragg Farmers Market. It's located at the corner of Spruce & N Main St. The times are 3:30PM - 6:00PM.
You can pick your boxes up here at the farm on Friday between 3:00PM and 6:00PM. If you can not make it here during those times then we'll put your name tag on the box and leave it on the table under the awning in front of the garage. If you'll be later than one day then please call us to make other arrangements. Thank you.
