What's new 06/02/09
by Joanne Frazer

Another busy week. We went to our first farmers market last week. We had a chance to talk with quite a few of you, which was nice. We also had help picking last Friday from Akemi and Marty. We are very thankful they were able to make the harvesting go so smoothly.

We have had word from Tom at Wages Creek that quite a few of the potato plants have sprouted! Now, the concern to how to water such a large area efficiently and quickly so John's doing research into drip tape and solar pumps. Today UPS delivered two big boxes, which I think is the needed irrigation supplies so we'll have some very happy little plants soon!

The corn and bean plants that Andy seeded into trays have not only sprouted but are now about 4 inches high! John planted out trays of basil, peppers, and tomatoes. I helped move some hoops from old beds to the new ones and put up the slitted row covers. That plus the black biodegradable mulch makes a very warm environment in which to grow. I also weeded (my favorite thing to do) the raspberry plants. I finished the old bed and 3/4 of one of the new beds. They already have some small green berries on them! Oh yeah, there's even some blueberries ripening! No, don't get your hopes up, there's only about 12 right now. But, in years to come.

My flowers are growing beautifully. Last winter one of our customers gave me a tree rose. Carmelle and I planted it into one of the side yard beds and it's now in bloom. It's a very fragrant yellow rose. I love it! Plus, as you've probably noticed, the wisteria flowers have started to open filling our yard with the most pleasant fragrance. Don't you just love this time of year?!

Thanks once again for all your support!
