What's new 07/07/09
by Joanne Frazer

Wow, I lately don't know whether to grab my tank top or my winter coat! It sure was cool over the weekend, huh? It was great transplanting weather though. John & I got a bed of spinach in and it's doing well. We also got a little rest. Naps are such wonderful things!

The sheep are very happy now since losing their winter coats! Matt came on Thursday and sheared all the adults. It's amazing to see how small some of the mothers are without all that wool. In fact, Shebaa looks especially petite! Her lamb is still small but it won't be long until he's bigger than she is. Matt brought his young daughter (she must be around 2 years old) with him. She was so cute! She'd sit right by him and pet the sheep as he finished shearing them. I have a picture to put on the website of the two of them. It really was wonderful to watch!

John also transplanted lettuce, beets, turnips, scallions, and leeks. He checked on the Mallory house while Andy was away visiting family. It seems we're (notice the pronoun) catching a rabbit a day. I really wonder just how many of the little buggers there are! I hope they get the message and stop coming around. At least, most of the plants are getting too big for them to destroy.

I seeded some trays of sunflowers to put down the south fence line. That should really look great! We picked out seed varieties so maybe we'll get some food for the chickens. I'm sure they'd appreciate it. My dahlias are starting to bloom! The side garden really is alive with color now. I just love looking out there! I'm thinking of making some bouquets up for box day. Let me know if you'd be interested.

The strawberries are really doing well now. So, we're offering a flat price of $38 (plus a $2 box rental fee). Do I see jam in your future?!
