What's new 8/25/09
by Joanne Frazer

Important notice: starting next week we are changing the pickup days to Wednesdays between 4-7PM. This will allow us to have the weekend to rest up and recharge. I'll send out the email newsletters on Saturdays to give you plenty of time to place your orders.

The trail to the spring is now in place. I forgot just how steep that hillside is! Now, we have to put some kind of reinforcement for the steps or else it'll just wash away this winter. We're very excited about being able to get that spring water up to our fields. Just a few more steps (hee-hee) and we'll be there!

We are very excited and thankful that Sienna is back from the East Coast and will be helping us pick produce. She and Jaime

sure make a difference. We're very fortunate to have them around.

John tore down his tractor and sent the clutch back to Kentucky to replace the bearings. He really has used that thing! We keep waiting for it to come back 'cuz we have so much that needs to get transplanted. John hand dug a bed and it sure made us appreciate having a machine do the work. Even though, it's not a joyride for John using the walking tractor, it sure beats doing it by hand!

John went down and visited the sheep that are vacationing on the South Coast. They're doing fine. They enjoy all the open spaces but still come for treats when he calls them.

He planted and trellised the late cucumbers into the green house. Hopefully, they'll do better than the last batch. For some reason, this year our cucumbers and peppers aren't doing as well as in past years. I cultivated the bed of peas and my flower bed. The late summer squash crop is doing very well.

The potatoes up at Wages Creek are in differing stages of development. We'll be digging some beds up in about 3 weeks. Everything is coming along wonderfully at the Mallory House.
