What's New 2/3/09
by Joanne Frazer
hopefully this week we'll get some much needed rain...that's what is forecasted and maybe this time the weatherpeople will be right! We'll be glad to have rain even if it means picking this week's box produce while getting wet!!
This year we're following the biodynamic planting calendar. Boy, I thought worrying about the moon phase was hard! Luckily we have a detailed calendar and it just means we have to plan out our seeding, transplanting, and direct seeding with more care. We (and I can use the we since last weekend I helped too) seeded trays of nappa cabbage, pak choi, lettuce, turnips, daikon radishes, leeks, and sweet red onions (yes, even more onions!). John and Jody planted another bed of favas. John also got in three beds of covercrop (barley and berseem clover). I thoroughly enjoyed pulling weeds in my flower bed on Sunday. I found a lovely anemone blooming...if I hadn't gone out to weed I would've missed it!
We're busy going over seed catalogs. John's putting in our potato order this week. It's a very exciting time!
You might have noticed the lambscapers were busy out front again. John wanted them to munch down the grass so he can rototill it and plant some timothy hay. We will be added rabbits to our farm and apparently they LOVE timothy hay! Plus, a portion of the front yard will be put into flower production. That should really look fantastic from the bridge!
Please remember you can send your preferences using the comment box but we cannot guarantee how much of each vegetable will be available for the boxes.
